There was a time when people were paid for waking up other people, human alarm, as you can call it. Then the actual alarm clock, as we know it, came into existence and those Knockers Uppers were no longer needed. The one constant that technology has is that it is ever-changing. Evolving and only those who evolve with the technology get to stay at the forefront.
There have been two subtle fundamental forces
to the daily life of people, two basic needs, shop for stuff, and news of
what’s happening. That being the print media. How people get what they
want can be as crucial and sometimes more so than what they get.
Now the world is changing at an exponential speed and thus the
fundamental aspects of day-to-day life are also changing. So, where do we go
from here? We are certainly not going back to having podiums at the middle of
the street with people battling out in haikus. Though they will be fun to watch! and the current
newspaper while sipping tea is old news.
And as far as vendors and suppliers are concerned,
from utilitarian retail stores to large brands can no longer work on the
philosophy of “I have the stuff; would you like to buy it?”
So, here are the latest
developments to look forward to in the coming years.
AI IS TAKING THE WHEEL
As the world moves
towards the economy of attention, the information of the audience continues to
be the most valuable asset for a business or a brand. Every time the customer
interacts with a retail store, brand, it excites a node. It is a mine on
customer behaviour and how there are influencing the customer.
And since the
intertwining of Artificial Intelligence into the business, the analysis of the behavioural
patterns has never been easier, allowing brands not only to collaborate more
fluently but always maximize their effectiveness in addressing the needs of
their customer.
ALL
STRINGS ATTACHED
The Gutenberg press changed the
world. It made manufacturing books in large numbers possible at a relatively
low cost for the first time, which contributed greatly to education and
literacy in Europe. It is where the print media became widespread, connecting
the individual with the outside world. Then, came the internet of things
causing the gap to shrink further and with the podcast, the spoken word became
as powerful as the written word but through the bombardment of information, the
impact of print media diminished. Now people want to get back to consuming
information at their own pace, in their own personal space, and here is where
Augmented Reality would revitalize the print media and associated businesses.
Through creating the place of their own choosing, the customer not just
passively consuming the media but interacting with it. Living it. Thus, print media suppliers are evolving from
print companies to tech giants.
THEY
ARE ALIVE!
Since the beginning, we
have been narcissistic…. we mean curious about ourselves and our consciousness.
And that led to the developments of the robots–– the amalgamation of human desire
for perfection and human desire to avoid work. Robots have been part of our
lives, from production to supply blockchain. Now, as they become more
intelligent. They are coming out of the production lines to our doorsteps. The
benefits the robots have in the first point of engagement and consumption are
the increased efficiency and hyper-competence in any specific task. The link
between the brand and the customer depends upon speed and efficiency that would
improve with increased automation.
IT’S
LIKE NEWSPAPER GIVING A HIGH-FIVE!
The desire of the
customer to be considered as an individual has grown over time and is only
going to expand. Now people don’t only want to know what going out there but
also what’s important to them. And thus, print media is morphing into digital
print media. Not only it has revived the link but also made the brand’s job
much easier as things become digital and thus can be turned into an algorithm
(sometimes biased) to make sure the right people get the right and accurate information.
BEYOND
SCI-FI
From manufacturing to
supply blockchain to the vendor. As the process improves, the improvements are
not done in leaps or bounds but in smaller increments. One of those increments
with massive impact is 3D printing. You make a digital model, hook it up to a
3D printing machine, and bam! You have one physical model
ready. The benefit of this is numerous. For instance, no more waiting for the
parts when you can make it on a go. And with machines becoming increasingly
smart, the need for human intervention will reduce greatly. The machines can
assess the problem, think of a solution, and then create a solution the minute
the customer walks in.
These are some of the
changes that are at the forefront. But technology is becoming more and more
human-like, like a living organism. The impact of it is as fun to speculate as
it is hard to predict but one thing is for sure, the changes that took an era
to solidify will now arrive within a year. Humans have created robots and raised them like their kids but what will
be the outcome of this?
